Heart Disease and Helpful Websites

This was the email I received the other day from Bill ... “Hi Amy, I would like to find out more information on coronary heart disease in which I have and will have it for the rest of my life. I have had 6 stints put in the last 3 years and had it done at Richard Ross heart center at OSU. I do exercise and watch my diet. It’s a disease people need to learn more about. I had what they call the widow maker the first time that I was at Ross heart center and was told that if I had heart attack from that I would not have lived thru it. It is important to listen to your body because it usually tells there is a problem and if I had not listen to my body telling me that I was short of breath or my chest was bothering when doing hard work I would not be here. The Ross heart center at OSU is great!!
Thanks for your time. Bill”

Hi Bill!
Thank you for your email. As you mentioned, the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital is an amazing resource! I also contacted Mid Ohio Cardiology Vascular and Consultants ... they too are a great option. Local cardiologists there also recommend the American Heart Association’s web site and Web MD as providing comprehensive information for heart disease. I’ve listed the websites below and I hope they help.

Take care!

Amy and the NBC 4 staff,

I was so happy to see the piece on the little boy who had transposition.  I was diagnosed with transposition when I was one day old. At that time, my parents were told that I wouldn’t live to be two.  Dr. Creanen at Children’s took great care of me. I have had four open heart surgeries and want to thank all of my doctors and nurses. Without them and God, I would not be here. I was brought to tears to see the little boy and to know that he was able to have his surgery at 5 days old. I didn’t have my first surgery until I was 13.  I was so happy that the doctors have been able to advance medicine to this point. Hopefully the little boy will never have to go through the things that I went throught. But if by going through them, I helped the doctors learn and in turned helped others, I would do it all again. Dr. Creanen, Dr. Daniels, Dr. Killman, Dr. Davis, and Dr. Cheatum, among others, are the best!!  I am now 36 years old and I am so thankful to God for my life.
Keep up the great work on reporting these stories. They probably affect more people than you realize!  It is nice for people to find out too that heart disease isn’t just clogged arteries or by-pass and that you can be born with it.
