New Public Policy Report of Issues effecting Individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in Ohio
Two public policy issues occurring right now in our state is individuals with ASD need access to insurance coverage for behavioral interventions like ABA. Please see earlier post about new autism parity language introduced this past week. The other public policy issue is that in July 2013, 37,000 individuals with disabilities will move from fee for service or state plan Medicaid to Medicaid Managed Care Plans. So individuals that recieve a paper Medicaid card in the mail and who do not have a waiver, will move to a managed Medicaid system such as Caresource. One concern we have for ASD families is our anticipation that home health care services which are also called core benefits or state plan services, will be decreased dramataically and we want to get the word out so families and not caught with only 30 days to adjust their schedules. Many families rely on this service to provide support for their loved ones in their homes while on the county board of DD’s waitlist for a waiver. Please keep an eye on our public policy page and we will provide updates.
