The ‘Eating Piece’ In Autism

Share/Save/Bookmark

As parents of children with special needs, we work hard to apply essential therapies to assist our children in reaching their highest potentials.
One of the pieces of the Autism Puzzle that is equally important to address is the ‘eating piece’ for our kids.  Healthy eating intervention can play a significant role in improving outcomes for all children, including those with Autism.

Many children with Autism have heightened levels of eating difficulties, including being extremely finicky, self-limiting to certain foods, refusal and sensory issues.
Along with appropriate educational and behavioral interventions, managing eating habits and eating behaviors is an important part of programming for children with special needs.

A great reading resource for parents to learn more about eating intervention and autism is Nourishing Hope by Julie Matthews.
