Biomedical—Who is Dr. Demio?
His practice lies in a non-descript office park in Worthington. Nothing special about the office itself—-the typical exam rooms with toys strewn about.
It’s what happens here that some people call miraculous.
Dr. Phillip Demio’s own son has autism. That’s what that drew him into the biomedical movement, using information that the doc says can be found in old, dusty medical books. I sat down with the doctor in his office, and was struck by how he’s handling all the attention. His waiting list for an initial appointment goes 6 months or longer. He sees nearly one-thousand patients. He works 18 hour says, driving between his offices in Cleveland and Columbus. To say the least, this movement is Demio’s life.
And it’s working.
Demio says most autism spectrum kids share similar physical malfunctions, including poor G.I. tract function, detox system problems, poor metabolism and vitamin deficiencies. He says everything below the neck affects brain function. Therefore, improving the body’s function can improve brain production. He says many of the children he sees can expect a “full recovery.“ He warns that recovery means normal, with a few battle scars—maybe a few quirky behaviors—-but the child should be capable of going to school, graduating, working and maybe getting married someday.
That recovery comes from an immense amount of supplements and other treatments. Ian Clum’s medication seems to go for miles—-several hundred dollars worth every month. The reward is the amazing improvement he’s made in speech, socialization and activity.
The biomedical movement is not without it’s opponents. In fact, when Sarah and I first started Brady in IBI therapy we were advised not to pursue biomedical treatment because of a lack of scientific proof of its performance. We were never told it doesn’t work, simply told they don’t recognize it as a scientifically proven method toward recovery. Of course, there is significant research that backs up the IBI therapy and its effectiveness.
We’ve now decided to pursue biomedical and IBI therapy together. We’ve been on the waiting list for awhile, and we’ll be seeing Dr. Demio soon. It’s another major investment in Brady’s future—-we’ll of course update you on his progress. Needless to say, he’s going to be a busy little boy!

No comments for you.
I have no autism in my family, but am an NBC news watcher and heard you mention this site tonight. Being from Southern California, I ALWAYS turn to “alternative” medicine first, and am so thrilled for you that you have found this biomedical piece to the puzzle. I have recently had gallbladder problems, and it caused me to search out a chiropractor who practiced “Applied Kinesiology” and believed in Nutritional supplements. I found Irvine Chiropractic in Westerville-and you get two for one - twin brothers-Drs Chuck and Steve Irvine. You might ask Dr. Demio and then add them to your arsenal - or at least check them out - as their methods can quickly and painlessly detect deficiencies and organs that aren’t working up to speed, etc. Worth a shot. Also, I have not read the book, but I have heard Jenny McCarthy talk about her son (and the book she wrote), who was/is autistic, and I think she “brought him out of that dark place” and I think a LOT of it had to do with nutrition. I also saw a woman and her previously autistic daughter several years ago on a show called “SoapTalk” on the SoapNet network, and she was able to do miraculous things with her daughter through music therapy. I felt at the time that everyone dealing with autism needed to read that book, but unfortunately, I have no idea what the title is. At any rate, my thoughts and prayers are with you, and if you go see the Doctors Irvine, please use my name, as they want to know from whence the referral came. Nutrition therapies are still more rare in Ohio than they are in California. Thanks for reading this.

I have been keeping up to date with your stories because autism is very important to me. I was an ABA therapist for three years and I am very passionate about autism. Anyway, I was recently introduced to a berry juice called “Monavie” and I wanted to share an article that was sent to me via email. I have just started drinking the juice myself and have been very impressed with everything I have read. The juice is only available via an independent distributor and is composed of 19 different fruits, one of which is called Acai. The Acai berry comes from South America and is a very healthy source of nutrition. I will copy and paste the email for you to take a look at. If you have any questions about the product please feel free to email me or go to http://www.monavie.com. Best of luck to you and your family.
Subject: Mom of Autistic children cries of joy…
Hi All,
As promised…below is the email from the mother of two autistic children. If there is ever a day that you wonder what the heck am I doing trying to peddle juice…you will answer that by reading this:
I met Dr. Schauss while he signed my book at the Super Regional Event last
Saturday, in Anaheim.
>
> Dr. Alexander Schauss has researched the Acai Berry for over 10 years and has
recently updated his book on his research with independent labs. I highly
recommend this book as it explains all about Acai and how it can’t come close to
any other fruit or vegetable when comparing antioxidant levels.
>
> But what I really want to tell you is that I am on a mission to inform any
family with a child of Autism, this story.
>
> I stood in line to meet Dr. Schauss and to honestly tell him that MonaVie is definitely doing something to my children. I hadn’t mentioned it to anyone yet, because I wasn’t sure that I was seeing what was happening! I wasn’t sure if I
was just being so hopeful.
>
> Both Katarina and Tavito were showing definite positive signs, ever since I
started them (pushed them) to drink MonaVie.
>
> I told Dr. Schauss that I have two children diagnosed with Autism and I
started them on MonaVie about 6 weeks ago. At first they fought it, because the
taste is strong for kids with sensory issues in the mouth, but they quickly
adjusted. What I am seeing is amazing. Their anxiety is definitely lowered.
So much, that I am prepared to remove their medication in the near future!! My
son, who does not have spontaneous language, has been walking up to me and
telling me things without me asking him what is wrong, or what do you want. You
and I both know this is new! As I told Dr. Schauss this, he smiled so big and
took my hands and told me that over 50 families have emailed or written to him about this too!!
He said they all didn’t know each other and all thought they
may be searching for something that wasn’t there, and was afraid to mention it.
He said I sounded like them. The response was so great that he has decided to
do an independent study on the effects of the Acai and Autism. He wanted my
info and said he would be in contact with me. He is looking for a independent
source to offer a grant to fund the study.
He truly believes me and the other families. I asked him how is Acai helping my children? He said that antioxidants repair cellular damage. Due to Acai’s potent antioxidant levels, he believes it is dramatically improving the repair of damaged neuropathways and therefore, reconnecting pathways through the brain to the speech center. He remarks that this is evident of antioxidants improving Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. As he talked, I totally understood what he was talking about! The
book will do more.
>
> I was literally shaking and trying not to cry. I had sensed something good was happening , but wasn’t sure, and he confirmed it!
>
> He told me that several families tested their feelings by taking the juice
away from their autistic children. Within a week or two, their children had
regressed. He told me to increase the amount of MonaVie per day and stay in
touch.
>
> We need to get the word out!! I am not saying that MonaVie will cure Autism,
but if it helps a little, and it is 100% natural and good for your health
anyway, why not?!!
If I can remove medication from my children, yes, I will do
that! And you and I both know what MonaVie has done for improving the quality
of life for us! My family will stay on MonaVie. I want you to read his book.
It is really amazing!
