Media Softball Showdown for Autism… and other events!

Hey all, I’m glad to tell you the Softball Showdown for Autism will be back this summer!  We’ll play Sunday, July 12th at Fryer Park in Grove City, right behind the new YMCA.  This year we’ll have 8 teams, including an all-Buckeye team.  We’ll have food, games, and all our local autism groups will be around to help us raise money and awareness.  This year the games will benefit Autism Speaks, and we’re aiming to keep that money here in Central Ohio.  If you’d like more info OR would like to volunteer to help us run the tournament, PLEASE email me at .

Spring Hills Baptist Church, a Granville-based church, will host a Benefit Concert for My Place To Be, a non-profit organization that serves families and children with autism and related special needs in Licking County and surrounding areas. The performance will be held on May 31st, at 7:00pm; doors open at 6:00pm. All members of the community are invited to attend. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door for adults; kids’ tickets (ages 12 and under) are $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Christopher Williams, who hails from Nashville, Tennessee, will perform a powerful one-man show with soulful vocals, guitar, and hand drum.

If you live in the Zanesville area, June 27th at the Lighthouse Inn there’s an all-day Autism Awareness Benefit that includes a Pool, Cornhole and Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament.  For more info call Levi Dickerson at 891-1557.

And our buddy Mike Hoover is planning his All About Autism Car, Truck and Drive-in event August 15th from 1-5pm.  It takes place at Quaker Steak and Lube at Polaris.  For more info email Mike at .

Any events you’d like people to know about, please lemme know!

Thanks
JEROD

This is a really great cause. Most people thing that persons with autism are not able to to anything by themselves but they’re dead wrong. With the proper guidance and understanding, someone with autism can live a normal life. Most children with autism excel in a specific line of work and some of the turn out to be really good artists so we should encourage them to broaden their horizons.

I’d like to share a recent reading I came across. Recent studies show that children with autism respond to interactive teaching in the form of video games and arcade games. They learn simple comprehension, communication and others. I can’t really remember where I read it but maybe you’d be interested in looking into it.
