The Tickle Factor
So here’s what I mean….
Brady has been doing a great job for months now of handing us a picture of something he wants or needs—it’s called a PECS book (photo exchange communication system). In the past couple weeks his therapists have added a couple new PECS, and one of those is a picture of a couple of stick figures with the word “tickles” drawn around them. It’s the closest thing to a photo description of tickles we can create.
Anyway, the PEC went largely unnoticed for several days. But soon, his therapists and mom continued to explain what the tickles PEC meant. This weekend, he really made the connection. Brady will now walk to the book, go specifically to the tickles PEC, take it directly to his mom or dad (almost always mom) and wait. But here’s the cool part… as soon as he hands it off, he’ll cover his ears. Why? Because when he gets tickles he doesn’t just the act of ticking—-he gets the word “tickles” squealed out over and again—-he loves it, but he knows to prepare for it now!
Small steps…..but another sign the little man is taking note of the power he can have if he continues to try and communicate!
If you see Brady—don’t be afraid to tickle!
