Brady's Page

WOW!  What a Response

I simply cannot believe the reponse we’ve received here… In just a matter of days, nearly 2,500 people have logged to Brady’s Page.  Your words and stories have been an inspiration to our family and many others.  So what are we planning for the future?  In a word, lots.

We’d like this space to be a message board for autism issues and upcoming events.  If you have a question or problem concerning autism, this a tremendous forum in which to ask it.  Whether it’s choice of treatment, problems in funding or finding families for play groups we hope we can help you.

I’ll get the ball rolling.. I’d like to tell you about two major upcoming awarness events later this year.  First of all, Autism Speaks will have an awareness walk on OSU’s campus Oct. 12th.  I’ll be there along wtih Dr. Gee from Ohio State and perhaps thousands of autism families.  For more information, log onto
http://www.walknowforautism.org/site/c.ddKFIMNrEqG/b.4045185/.

Also, I’m the emcee for OAD’s Outing for Autism.  It’s one of the largest single day fundraisers for Children’s Hospital’s Autism Center.  This year’s golf tournament tees off Sept. 8th at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City.  This year, we’re also having an autism seminar during the day for those not interested in playing golf.  For more information call Dave Stynchula at (877) 623-6446.

These are just two examples.  If you have any info about autism awareness events, just respond to this post with that info.

Also, we’re also planning a photo essay for the blog called “The Faces of Autism.” If you’d like to include a pic of your child for our display, you can email it to us at .  Please include their name and age and other info you find relevant.  I’ll have several good pics of the “Bradster” up soon!

Thanks again and let’s keep the dialogue going!

No comments for you.

Hello,
I began volunteering at a Theraputic Horseback Riding Center about a month ago. I have been working with a boy who is 14 and is autistic. I have only had 3 lessons with him so far, but he has been a blast to work with. It is really rewarding to watch him learn new things and to use different muscles without him realizing he’s doing it.

If you haven’t heard about the therapy that horseback riding can bring to your son, you should check out the stables. Christy, who runs the not-for-profit barn, is really fun and ambitious.

I just wanted to share this with you. Good luck with everything. Hope to see you at the barn some time.

Best Wishes,
Andrea

Hi.

The Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) and the Autism Society of America (ASA) present an international autism conference November 19-21, 2008, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Last year, over 1,400 participants from 46 states and 13 countries attended.

Over 200 sessions will be presented by scholars and leaders from around the country and the globe.

Parents and family members can register at a special rate of $100, thanks to support from the Autism Society of Ohio.

Volunteers receive free registration.

In addition, autism EXPO 2008, a FREE exposition, will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2008, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. If you can’t attend the full conference, this is a great opportunity to meet with 80+ companies and service providers and learn more about the latest products and services for those on the autism spectrum.

Registration forms and more information are available here: http://www.nattapconference.org
or by contacting Simon Buehrer ( | 614.410.0995).

Hope to see you at Ohio’s premier autism conference!
