23 pound twins…and cloth diapers!
I was sitting in the living room on Saturday watching the Today Show with my husband and daughter when I saw a story that prompted me to nearly fall out of my chair. A woman in North Carolina just gave birth to twins weighing 23 pounds (total, of course). Lord, help that woman. I kept asking my husband if I had heard the story right. The kicker is she looked fabulous in the interview. I looked like death warmed over after having just a 7 pound baby girl. The babies are darling. They’re an absolute blessing and the parents were beaming with joy. She’s got Mother of the Year locked in. But—WOW! So, you can bet we are going to talk about that story today on First at 4.
And this next story is starting to get a lot more attention. Cloth Diapers. Do you use them? I got a very nice email from a woman the other day about how much cloth diapers have changed and she loves them. She says they are so much easier, cuter, and cheaper, too, not to mention better for the environment. We’re going to run down the changes in cloth diapers, plus the pros and cons on First at 4 today, but I’m curious…what do you think? Anybody use them or thought about it?

Cloth diapers seem like a great idea in theory. They are so much better for the environment and would save so much money. I am going to give them a shot even though my daughter is two. I am starting potty training and I think that my two year old feeling the moisture a little more might help. My question is, where can I find them?

I’m an old mother with four grown daughters, and back in the day cloth diapers were the only way to go. I didn’t think they were so bad. I had a washer with a “suds saver” feature that allowed re-use of the wash water. I always saved and re-used the wash water from the underwear load to pre-soak the diapers. With a bottle of Lysol disinfectant and the ‘good ole sunshine’ with the clothes line I was in business. I had one daughter who had a very bad reaction to a certain brand of disposal diaper and so cloth diapers were the best for her. - Loretta Schlegel

I have been using cloth diapers for the past two years and I love them! I bought some with my first child and now I am reusing them with baby #2- talk about saving some money! I have found the best place to buy them is online. There are websites such as bluemountain.com and fuzzibunz.com, but a great resource is ebay! I would highly recommend using all in one diapers, but there are also fitted diapers and prefolds (both which require a diaper cover.) They are adorable and my husband even enjoys changing them! If you are willing to do an extra load or two of laundry a week, I would say to give it a try. What better way to help the environment than to reuse diapers??

I don’t know about cloth diapers. I just feel that I am strapped for time enough right now as is. But I don’t want to say either way because I don’t know much about the “new” cloth diapers. I would need more info before I changed my mind for sure :)
Although Hannah is almost 2, and will be potty training here soon enough.
I cant believe the 23 pound babies!! How healthy :) I have been so busy this week its been unreal—I haven’t seen the news at all!!

I have a 21 month old. He wears cloth diapers. He loves his cloth diapers and would have a fit when we put a regular diaper on him. We use the bumkins all in ones and I love. They are easy to clean and take care of and come in such cute patterns.
I will continue to use them. He loves them and the protect the environment.

i saw the segment on cloth diapers. they are now so trendy and cute! i applaud moms that are taking that step to go greener, i’m just not sure i’m ready to go there…... but i can definitely see how, in the next few years, that will be the “new thing” to push for moms…

I had my 3 daughters in a 3 year span. They are adults now, but there was a period of time when I had 2 in diapers. I was given a diaper service as a gift for a few months with my first baby and when I tried to use them when the second one came along to save money, she could not tolerate wearing them. It was wierd…I would change her and put her down for a nap and if she wet during the nap when she got up and I changed her, her little bottom was all red and raw. I think the using the plastic pants just kept her body heat in and it kinda ‘cooked’ her bottom. So, I would use the cheapest disposables I could find and only resort to using cloth when I ran out. (we only had one car at the time so hubby would come home from work loaded with diapers)
