Elaborating With Ellie

Bargain Hunting for Kids Clothes

Hi I am Ellen of Thrifty & Chic Mom where it is all about living life while spending less. Recently I had the opportunity to go shopping with Ellie to find some deals on quality kid’s clothes, hopefully you caught the segment. Here’s a little more on what I know about getting deals on kids clothing.

When it comes to bargain hunting I like nothing better than a great price, but if the item isn’t of quality than no matter how great the price it is not worth purchasing. When it comes to clothing this is especially true. A quality piece of kids clothing should withstand the wear and tear of several children. It should be able to be passed on or resold after your child is done with it. If it falls apart after a few washings, fades or shrinks drastically you got a bad deal. So how can you save money while buying quality clothes for your kids? It’s easier than you think.

*First you want to do a little research about brands. Ask friends with older kids or check resale sites to see what brands they buy often. This will give you a good idea of companies whose clothing holds up well.

*Next know what you need. Think of the types of activities your child needs clothes for (play, church, sports activities, ect.) and make a list.

*Watch for sales and coupons. Sign up for mailing lists both email and regular mail. This will ensure you know in advance of good sales and have the current coupons.

*Make smart purchases. Buy things that can easily mix and match (multiple tops for each pair of pants). For basics stick to neutrals that can be used for both boys and girls (white onesies for layering and white socks). Choose darker colors and prints that hide stains well. Buy outfits that can be used for multiple purposes (play and church).

*Take advantage of price adjustment policies. Many companies will give you the sale price if the item is marked down within a certain time period (ex. 14 days). Keep track via the internet and take your receipt into be adjusted if you see it go down.

These are just a few ways you can stretch your kid’s clothing budget. The more you can pass down and resell the less you spend in the future. You can shop at resale stores for great deals on name brand clothes as well. Remember that just because the price is great doesn’t mean the lack of quality is worth it.

Sincerely,
Ellen @ Thrifty & Chic Mom
