Bonding Breakfast
First up—a HUGE thank you for “piping in” on The Mommy Perks. Go Team! And keep it coming. In the spirit of the Olympics (love, love, love the Olympics!) I grant you all gold medals in the mommy competition. Sometime today stand up and wave to your fellow moms, as you imagine a gold medal being slipped over your neck. Go ahead and hum the Olympic tune if you like. :)
OK—this is so cool. You’ll love it. My neighbors headed back to elementary school today. Remember the first day of school? Ugh! It stinks to have to walk into a new classroom all by yourself and not know anybody. You’re wondering will these kids like me? Will they make funny of me, because my name rhymes with “belly, smelly, and jelly?“ Did I wear the right outfit? Did my mom buy me a stupid notebook? It’s fun to relive isn’t it? Good times. Anyway, so my neighbor (who is one rockin’ mom) decides to host a breakfast for her 6th grade daughter and all of her friends. I swear they invited the whole city. Which is cool, because they didn’t leave anybody out….everyone feels good, you know. They met at their home this morning, had a good breakfast, got to catch up and enjoy the morning together before they all walked to school together (think strength in numbers). I love that! What a great way to start the first day of school! I’ll have to remember to do that for Caroline. So, this morning I looked out my window and saw a sea of cute little girls heading off to their first day of 6th grade together. That’s one mom who gets a gold medal for her “bonding breakfast.“ I would have said hello, but I had curlers in my hair, and I’m working hard not to be the “weird neighbor lady” on our block.
Any cool first day of school traditions or memories you want to share?
Go Team!

All those little traditions kids love and look forward to year after year. I have heard about those breakfasts on the first day, or a little get together party to make their teachers a christmas gift. So it makes it fun for all involved.
All those Super Moms out there..talking tradition.
A mom I know leaves a little note in all the kids lunchboxes. For the older kids, its good luck on that test or for the little ones its xxx and ooo’s. The 13 year old girl who still gets those notes in her lunch, said to me this summer how much that meant to her when shes having a bad day. To get a note from her mom just to say hi and have a great day…
Its those little things when they get bigger that mean the most!

Hi Cena..
Thanks for the sweet message.
I am not her mom though, I was her nanny. That would be her super mom that leaves notes in her kids lunchboxes. What a awesome way though to let the kids know your thinking of them when their at school .
