Elaborating With Ellie

No Time to be Sick!

Yup, I’m sick.  Garden variety cold with the lovely cough, sneezing, stuffy head, and all around germy presence.  And I tell ya, I’m lookin’ good….puffy eyes, red nose, and there’s just something about me that screams “ran over by a truck.“  Regardless, I’ve got no time for this.  I’m at work right now.  (I’ve given my co-workers the warning to stay away from me today)  I’d stay home, but this is not the week for me to do that.  It’s a big week and a busy one, both at work and home.  The funny thing is, I was chatting with my husband last night I said, “Oh good, I’ve got a few days after Thanksgiving to be sick, but up until Turkey Day, I’m booked.“

So, I got to thinking.  When was the last time you actually had the time to be sick?  To actually crawl in bed, pull the covers over your head, and sleep off your sickness?  And what was that like?  Just curious….you can vote in the comments section.  And if any of you have the cure for the common cold…oh, please speak up now.  :)

Happy Monday!

I think this is a question for the childless.

I was sick last week - had to miss one week of work! Maybe we had the same thing. One week! Now I’m slammed, trying to make up for all of that lost time.

I’m with you… stuffy head, runny nose and sneezing, but still working!  As a mom, I find there really isn’t time to relax and recover from a bad cold or the flu.  Instead, I try to just slow down a bit.  So instead of taking our son to Cub Scouts tonight, my husband will and I will hang out at home with our daughter.  Instead of cooking dinner, I threw some stuff in the crock pot.  And after the kids go to bed, I will take a nice long, very hot bath and hope my nose clears up!

um… maybe when I was on maternity leave?!  In the past two years since then, I’ve had food poisoning twice, a sinus infection, a couple of mild colds, and I also had foot surgery when my daughter was 7 months old, and that was no fun either!

so no, there really is no time!

I was thinking about all you moms about a week ago when I had a nasty case of the flu. Put me down for three days, I cant imagine how you all do it. There is still a little one that needs you for something. Or work that is demanding something from you as well.
I like to take Airborne. Even though its not proven, I still take that the first sign of a cold or sore throat and seems to reduce my symptoms. Also I like those breathe right strips. I get the ones that are non medicated, they help open up your nose.
Get better soon Ellie!

I think it is the change in weather here in Ohio that is causing everyone to be sick.  I started this afternoon getting a runny nose and sneezing every 15-20 minutes so I am sure I am right there behind you.  No time to be sick when you have a child.  I think the last time that I was really able to rest and relax when I was sick was BEFORE I had Cameron.  Other then that you gotta grab some R&R;when the kids go to bed.  As goes for things that I use to help the common cold… lots of water or any type of fluids along with some good ole fashion chicken noodle soup.  Hope you feel better soon Ellie : )

UGH!  i hate feeling sick.  as a mom, you have no time to do so. and if you work outside the home, you have even less time…
the last couple of times that i felt like i was coming down with something, you know, the sore throat, achy body, etc., i made “spicy lemon tea”. i added lemon juice and cayenne pepper to hot water and drank a few cups.  i woke up the next morning feeling fine.  and for the coughing, add pure, raw honey.  works wonders!

Hi All,

Oh my the season of sickness, this past week I got sick, then the 7 month old did, and last but not least our 3 yr old. So for tuesday, wednesday and thursday I had 2 sick children and my illness on top of it all. Tuesday wasn’t to bad my husband was off due to Veteran’s Day, but wednesday and thursday there were dr. appointments for the 2 girls, parent-teacher conference, as well as my husband’s follow-up from a procedure he had done friday. Not to mention general housework, dinner, and well I think we all know how this ends. I say we call ourselves “Super Mom”. I mean weather a mom is a stay at home or works out of the household everything on top of everything is never easy. So Ellie and everyone I hope you are all feeling better and here is a Coffee Mug Toast to all of us Super Moms.
