Elaborating With Ellie

‘Round the Clock Moms

I come in bright ‘n early in the morning, sit down at my computer and check my email.  And it never fails.  Just by checking when an email arrived in my inbox, I can easily see when my mommy friends finally get a minute to themselves to email and blog.  Often—oh wait—all the time, it’s between the hours of midnight and 5am.  Why?  That’s the time everyone else leaves mom alone and she finally gets a minute to catch up.

I get it.  The day flies by, we’re juggling a million things, trying to just make it through the day, through the drive home, then through dinner, and then finally get the kids to bed.  It’s the “to do” list that never ends.  Get up, get moving, coffee, more coffee, work, boss, work, appointments, return calls, pick this up, drop that off, nap (please), dinner, what’s for dinner?, find dinner, bath, bed, where’s the paci?, where’s the elephant?, bed (finally), toss in laundry, vino, computer, hop on the computer and play finely tuned game of “catch up”.  I call it the ‘Round the Clock Mom.  She’s very talented indeed.  I can often predict when my friends will email me just by the time of day.  Just as soon as we wrap up one day, another begins and there are a few “chill” hours in between.  They are the calm before the storm…or after it (likely both), but we’ll take any calm we can get right?

Here’s to the 3am crowd!  When do you finally get things done and what’s your favorite “mommy is winding down, give me some peace for a minute” relaxation strategy?

Happy Monday!

There is reason why I get up at 5am for my “me” time. That’s when I do 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer. Otherwise I wouldn’t get any exercise!

Hi Ellie,

I definitely understand about the late night blogging, emailing, etc. I am often up late at night when the house is quiet and the kids are asleep, along with my DH to sneak away for some ‘me time’ or “mamastimeout” is what I like to call it. It is so much easier to think and enjoy my music (w/headphones of course) while everyone else sleeps.

I also started my moms social network and talk show as another way to get some mamastimeout and connect with moms online and around the world. I have met some great women, moms, authors and experts this way.

I hope you will join us for some ‘mamastimeout’ as well. ☺

As you know, I’m definitely guilty of this, LOL!

With at least one of five kids always distracting me, I’ll often intend to go back to an email and forget about it.  So at night after they’re all in bed is my time to go back through and catch up on all the work that didn’t get done during the day!  Some days I just feel like there’s not enough time in the day to squeeze everything in.
