Elaborating With Ellie

What’s your SANITY SAVER?

You’ve got one.  I know you do.  Don’t even pretend like you don’t.  A sanity saver.  In fact, I’m willing to bet you’ve got several.  That’s ok….even good….wait, I mean GREAT.  We all need them, and they help us either slide through a rough day, laugh off an embarrassing moment, or muddle through when all we want to do is close the door and let silence fill our head.  A little peace and quiet goes a long way, but when you don’t have that option, that’s when a “sanity saver” steps in.  It can be our favorite coffee, a quick phone call to a girlfriend, a craft idea that keeps the kids busy and buys you some time, or even a little glass of vino…whatever it is that takes your mind away for the moment to settle you down and re-focus.

I hear moms talking and blogging about sanity savers all the time now.  Sanity savers (SS) used to be pretty personal….like we didn’t want to admit we needed them, but now we can yap about them all day long, and that’s a good thing.  You never know WHEN you’ll need a sanity saver.  The need for one could pop up at work when you realize all that you have to wrap up at the office before you leave for the day to go to your “real job” as mom.  Maybe you get the urge for a SS as you walk into the playroom and realize crackers have been ground into the carpet, and several crayons are missing the “tips” (and the teeth marks give it away as to what happened to them).  Or perhaps you venture into “no man’s land,“ which is what I call going to the grocery store with a child in tow.  That’s a sure way to spark the need for a SS.

So what’s your sanity saver?  Here are a few of mine…

1. Coffee, coffee, coffee.
2. My crock pot.  Just used it for the first time last night, and it’s my new favorite thing to get dinner done without thinking too hard.
3. Girlfriends.  I am so blessed to be able to call up one of my girlfriends and vent.
4. TV sitcoms and dramas….Lipstick Jungle is my new favorite one.  And I can laugh endlessly at The Office
5. My baby girl sleeping….it’s such a different world when she’s sleeping.  I always have time to watch her sleep.

So what’s your sanity saver?  Maybe it’s a simple treat for you or an easy way to save time or money.  Dish.

Have a great weekend!

Hey Ellie -
Happy Friday to you!!  Don’t forget it is going to be a beautiful weekend and we even get to FALL BACK (Yahoo).  Ok, ok, now down to the business at hand.  Sorry to get side tracked.  I do that alot anymore.

Sanity Savers… I use to say it was a nice cold margarita with salt and some nachos, but that has changed since I have a little one and now I am a diabetic.  My sanity savers now consists of a nice quiet drive (alone) while playing 104.9 the River and singing like there it is no ones business.  I also enjoy an A&W;vanilla cream soda here and there and blogging.  Yep, I am so addicted to blogging that I need to go to bloggers anonymous (lol).  It has been great making new friends through my blog site.  I enjoy it tremendously.

ooh, my sanity savers:
1. a glass of red wine.  (although i won’t be able to enjoy that again until sometime in april…)

2.  my monthly meal planner - i sit down before each month begins and plan ahead for my meals so it saves me scrambling during naptime. (and speaking of crockpots, you should check out the blog: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com for lots of fun crockpot recipies!

3.  noggin - it’s on 24/7, just in case i need it at crazy hours of the day.

4.  my dvr - so i don’t feel pressure to stay up late or miss out on something else to catch a show.

5.  the young and the restless - it’s what i watch during my “lunch hour” while the kids are napping so i can escape for a little while.

6.  ditto on girlfriends.  they’re priceless!

Wow Sanity Saver huh…well I never thought of some of the things I do as SS, but come to think about it I would say, once I get the hubby to work and get back at 5:45 in the am I jump on the computer check my email read the news, of course nbc4i.com and play some games seeing as I dont get my son up till 6:20 and then Autumn up at 7:00. Then its off to school for the 2 of them and my mother is off to work I clean up obviously baby is with me and awake bu all this but then after that is all said and done, The baby and I play till feeding time then nap time. Have to admit watching her sleep is a whole nother world, so peaceful, watching her makes me want to nap right next to her.
