Dishin’ On Daytime

Yesterday I took a day off Daytime to go to Athens, Ohio to be part of an OU student movie, Trailerpark. My son Conor is the coordinating producer. My daughter Kelly is working on the the movie as well. In fact, you can check out more about the movie tomorrow in a big article in the Dispatch (March 28).

So, they needed some extras to be part of a tavern scene. My sister Mary Beth joined me for the little escapade. We had to drink water out of beer bottles for 8 hours! Seriously, we started the shoot at 7:30 p.m. and were on set until 3:30 a.m. It truly is alot of sit around and wait. My sister, who is in medical sales, had no idea how things on a set work and she was fascinated. Since I’ve been in the TV and production business, I knew we were in for a long night. We finally got our big cameo at 3 a.m. Let’s just say I think we are going to end up on the cutting room floor. We were so punchy tired by that time that we couldn’t stop laughing. We did a couple of takes, but I think the director knew after the first take that we were not actors. So, when we told us to be serious, we laughed! And we kept laughing until they yelled cut…and it was over. (sigh) Oh well, you can see the back of my head in a couple of shots….

We had a blast even if we don’t make the movie. I was truly impressed at the work ethic of these students and how they worked together so well. Everybody knew their role and did their job.

I can’t wait to see the end result in June. Trailerpark won’t ever show up at the box office. A great learning adventure just the same.
