Dishin' On Daytime

Dishin’ On Daytime

One of my very best friends, Barb, is raising a child with autism. Michael is 20 years old now, but still a concern for Barb and her husband as he transitions from school to adult life. While working on the special, I found that transitioning to adulthood is a big concern, since most every program available to families and people with autism dries up at age 21. That leaves families with very few choices. Legislators in Ohio are working with autism agencies to provide more services to families, from early diagnosis in children to helping young adults lead a fulfilling life with autism. My friend Barb is the Executive Director of the Autism Society of American, Ohio Chapter. Her dedication is amazing to me, but it’s her passion to help her son Michael, and all the Michaels around the country. My hope is that Barb, and other families in Ohio, find the answers they need and the help they deserve for their children.
