Dishin’ On Daytime
Truly, I could not have asked for a better place to hang my hat for so many years. But the pictures brought back many memories I’d forgotten and reminded me why I’ve enjoyed my stay for so long. It’s the people. Not such a big revelation really. Yet flipping through pictures made me realize even more how many wonderful people have entered my life and continue to be part of my life because of my job. Cabot, Colleen and Mike have worked with me for almost 20 years. Isn’t that amazing! And we have become good friends in the process. We are all about the same age and have gone through life’s trials and tribulations together of raising children and taking care of aging parents. Our children used to go to each other’s birthday parties. For my kids, the station itself is full of fond memories. I have always felt that if my children were familiar with where their mom worked every day, they would feel comfortable knowing where I was when I wasn’t with them. And in turn I wanted them to feel part of where I worked to bring a sense of belonging. They knew mom was happy, and that made them happy.
I brought some of the pictures into work this week and we laughed so hard! The 80’s hair..the big shoulder pads and the many different shows we anchored. I have anchored every newscast here at one point or another except for the 11 o’clock news. I’ve share the anchor desk with so many people! I found a picture of old billboards touting our news. I found a picture of the old bus advertisements. Yes we actually were on the side of COTA buses. You can not truly understand how weird it is to see your face drive by while you are waiting at a red light! I hope many of you find happiness, or at least contentment with your job. And if you don’t you might want to look at the faces at the desk next to you. Sometimes the people make it all worthwhile.
