Dishin’ On Daytime
Sure most of us know about the farm kids bringing their prize horse or cow to the fair, hoping for a ribbon. But that’s just the beginning. The fair is full of exhibits of arts and crafts, cakes and cookies, made or baked by kids. Then there’s the teenagers involved in the All Ohio State Fair Band and State Fair Choir. These youngsters have to be recommended by their music teachers to be part of the program and they work tirelessly for over two weeks to provide wonderful music for folks at the fair.
You’ll see plenty of youth groups represented at the fair, everything from 4-H to Future Farmers of America to.Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. What these kids do is amazing….and few people realize how many talented and hard working young people spend time at the fair or take time to work on a fair project. Saturday I met over a dozen youngsters involved in all sorts of fair activities. Each one impressed me with their communication skills and their obvious pride in their work.
How many times do we hear complaints that young people today don’t have a good work ethic or are lazy or have no ambition. If you believe that you should take a trip to our state fair. Just look around. You will be proud of the Ohio young people working at the fair. I know I was.
