Dishin’ on Daytime

WOW!! Every summer I say the same thing. But now that my kids are older and live away at school, summer becomes even more precious. And I suppose that’s what makes the summer months fly by even faster. This past summer, I spent alot of time with my two daughters, Meggie and Kelly. Kelly is home from OU and soon heading back for fall classes. Meggie is preparing for her junior year at Watterson. Since June though, we have packed in alot of fun stuff into these summer months.

Even though both my girls held down summer jobs and spent lots of time with friends..girls and boys…we were able to spend some quality time together. We took walks along the beach during our vacation at the Outer Banks. My girls filled me in on their life and their thoughts for the future. I think they actually were listening to some of my motherly advice. We took in a few chick flicks. Dad didn’t seem to mind, since he took the opportunity to fit in more rounds of golf! We had great family dinners and wonderful talks on the front porch of our Clintonville home. The front porch continues to be a gathering place for our family and friends. You can find out alot about a person if you spend an hour with them on our front porch. (Okay ...a glass of wine usually helps.)

Now that it’s nearly 90 degrees every day… the dog days of summer…. I feel summer is slowly slipping away. I hear the locusts chirping every evening and that’s a signal for the start of school. I hope to fit in another big family cookout before summer’s end. We have some school shopping before that first day of class.
Then it’s time for turtlenecks and parkas.
I’m longing for next summer already.
