Dishin' On Daytime

Dishin’ On Daytime

Growing and canning his hot peppers has become his passion. I joke that working in the garden is Dan’s mid-life crisis. You have to admit it’s much better than him driving up in a red convertible…or worse! I don’t even remember how it all started. But one day his little garden took over his life. The small patch of land turned into a bigger patch, and he worked and toiled and brought in new and improved soil. And he fertilized. And he weeded. And he proudly displayed his first hot pepper plants growing like crazy. The next step was the canning process. Dan wanted to make the canned peppers just like he remembered from his days growing up in Niles, Ohio, where the Italian families had all the great homemade peppers. Being Irish was not going to deter my husband. He found the old Italian recipes and set to work. My kitchen was a disaster! But the peppers….any Italian would be proud. So tonight as I get ready to head for home, I know I will be greeted by my husband, working hard on canning the 2009 Hogan’s Hots. Guess what we give for Christmas presents???

Growing organic food is the best, I like doing tomatoes myself.  When I pick them they are perfectly fresh for dinner and leave my mouth so tasteful with joy.  I hear peppers are fun to grow to, I’ll have to try it this spring.  If you haven’t done so, I definitely suggest growing your own garden.
