Dishin’ On Daytime
Last year, I was not feeling well during the winter months. I described it to my doctor as body aches, like I had the start of the flu. But I never felt bad enough to stay home from work. I also wanted to sleep…alot. My doctor suggested I had the begining of the winter blues, or seasonal affective disorder. But I told him was happy…really happy with everything in my life. I also maintained a well rounded diet and I did exercise, even if I didn’t feel well. I certainly didn’t feel depressed. I found out that depression…especially the seasonal kind, can have lots of physical symptoms without the depressed outlook on life. Well, my doctor recommended I up my dose of vitamin D…which is what we get from sunlight. So I added vitamin D to my diet last spring. This winter I feel sooo much better. I can’t say for sure it’s the vitamin D, but it’s the only real change I made that would affect my winter blues.
AND I’m going on a trip to the Caribbean in a few weeks. I truly believe having something to look forward to in a warmer climate does wonder for the psyche. If only I could afford to do it every year! For those of you stuck in Ohio this winter, try a little vitamin D. It won’t work overnight, but keep at it. I found that it did make a difference.
