Alum Creek Dog Park’s “News to Bark About “
A note from Ann at the Friends of Alum Creek Dog Park:
Alum Creek Dog Park - News to Bark About
Anyone know were the summer had gone? I can’t believe it is almost the end of August…..
1. Dog Park Cleanup - This Saturday from 9 am to noon
Please stop by the dog park to help with our monthly cleanup. From 9 am to noon. Bring yard and garden tools.
We will:
pick up the apples and throw them into the woods
empty, clean and sanitize the trash cans
sanitize water bowls
pick up trash and dog poop in and around the dog park
pull weeds along the fence line
throw away any broken up dog toys and leaking water jugs from inside the fenced areas
hopefully put down organic fertilizer - see #8 for details
Hope you can come out and help - it is up to us as users of the dog park to keep it clean. Remember, your dog can’t volunteer - but you can! Thanks in advance to everyone who comes out to help!
2. A Poop Problem -
I am getting emails about poops not getting picked up at the dog park. If you see poop that has not been picked up - please, please, please pick it up. If you notice a dog pooping and the owner does not pick it up - politely give them an empty poop bag and tell them their dog pooped and that they should pick it up. I like to smile and tell people that Pet Butler does not work here. I tell them that it is up to the people who use the dog park to help keep it clean. It is really important that poop get picked up because it can spread diseases that are harmful to dogs and humans.
3. Lights update -
The final draft of the plans for the lights in the dog park is almost ready for bidding. We have gotten notes of interest from several electrical contractors. Please let me know if you know anyone who might be interested in bidding on the project. We expect to open the bids in the middle of September. Once we get an actual cost for the project, we will compare that with the money we have from our fundraising the past 3 years. If we have enough, we will begin the work. If not, we may need to do an additional round of fundraising. Promise to keep you all in the loop on this project - as many of you have contributed time and money to make it happen.
4. Website Update -
Thanks to hard work by 2 of our volunteers Kathy and Bruce - our new website is almost ready to go live. One new feature of the site will be photos from the dog park. If you would like your dog to be included on the webpage - send your photos to
5. WagFest is this Saturday -
It will be at the Darby Bend Lakes Area of Prairie Oaks Metro Park. Here is their website http://www.wagfest.com/index.html Many of our rescue group friends will be there.
6. Wonder why the woods next to the dog beach is being cleared??
Stay tuned for some exciting news about the dog park.
7. Wonder why there is a dirt path from the parking lot to the bathroom? The State Park is putting in a sidewalk to make it easier to get to the bathroom. If you know anyone in the concrete business who might want to donate concrete for this sidewalk - please let us know.
8. Anyone with a pickup truck live near or is willing to drive to the Prospect Farmers Exchange located in Prospect Ohio?
http://www.prospectfarmers.com
We purchase soybean meal from them to use as an organic fertilizer. I would like to get several hundred pounds of soy bean meal to put down on Saturday - but we need someone with a pickup that can carry that much weight and who can get to the Exchange during the day. Please let me know if you are able to help with this request.
Kind regards and thanks for your support of the dog park!
Ann

I’m taking care of some family’s dogs for the week, but I only own one dog. My dog always seems very aggressive towards other dogs, but they seem to be getting along alright. My dog is always trying to lick under the chin of one of the other dogs, and that dog doesn’t seem to like it much. Is that some type of communication, and if yes, what does it mean?Vibration Exercise Machine
