New Reed Road Fire Station Unveiled
City officials and community leaders gathered Monday evening for a look at the new Reed Road Fire Station.
The new 27,000 square-foot facility replaces the existing Fire Station 72 that has been in operation since 1959. The new station features 10 individual dorms for firefighters, a museum to display the City’s vintage Seagrave Fire Truck and a 50-person training room that will also serve as the City’s emergency operations center.
The new facility also features a three-lane firing range for use by the City’s Police Division and new offices that help the City’s officers be more readily available when needed.
The building was constructed in an environmentally-friendly manner, using recycled building materials and efficient electrical, heating and air-conditioning systems.
The $6-million facility was financed with $3.9-million in bonds, with the annual debt payment covered by funds generated by the City’s Emergency Medical Services fee.
The Fire Division is planning to host a grand opening ceremony and open house in the spring once the facility is up and running.
