COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An audit of former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann’s campaign expenses asks him to reimburse his campaign for roughly $33,500 he spent to install security features at his home.
The audit of 2007 expenses released Friday by the Ohio secretary of state says that the security expenditures no longer appear related to Dann’s public duties because he resigned May 14 in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal in his office.
Dann installed the security measures because he said he received threats from gambling interests after taking a tough stand against their efforts to expand in Ohio.
The audit asks Dann to provide more information on why he spent over $5,000 in campaign money on a Columbus hotel during an 8-month period when he was using campaign funds to pay for a rental property in the city. The audit called the situation unusual.
