Obama’s Trip to Columbus Will Focus on the Economy, Seniors
Senator Barack Obama is coming back to Columbus on Friday for the first time since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Obama will focus on the economy as part of his “Change That Works For You” tour at an invitation-only event on the city’s northeast side. But the Obama campaign asked media not to mention the name of the assisted-living facility hosting the event in order to avoid attracting a crowd.
Executive Director Dale Foy says the Obama campaign never told him why they selected the site for a visit, but it’s clear that Obama will need senior support in his against with Republican John McCain.
Fifteen facility residents were selected to meet with Obama and Governor Ted Strickland. Mel Barrett is among them. He’s an Obama supporter who is against the war in Iraq. The facility has McCain supporters as well, and Foy says Obama’s campaign asked only that the 15 seniors selected be interested in politics and ready to ask questions.
