Attorney General Candidates To Be Determined Saturday
Ohio’s Democratic and Republican parties will pick their parties respective nominees for the Attorney General position on Saturday. State Treasurer Richard Cordray is a virtual certainty to earn the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side, the crystal ball is more clouded. Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost is the only elected official to publicly express an interest in the nomination. Those close to the process say that behind the scenes, GOP leaders would like a candidate with higher name recognition given the short timeframe between now and November and the shadow of the presidential campaign. Should Yost secure the nomination, the first test will be fundraising. Also Saturday, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius comes to Columbus to give the keynote address at the Ohio Democratic Party’s state dinner. Sebelius backed Barack Obama early in the presidential campaign and is among the contenders for the vice presidential nomination. The dinner theme is a “Family Reunion” in reference to the party’s need to unify behind Obama.
