Campaign Cash Explosion

Governor Ted Strickland is reporting more than $7.1 million cash on hand. Former Congressman John Kasich has $5.2 million in the bank.

Both candidates can spin the numbers. Strickland’s camp has already fired off an e-mail touting “more cash on hand than any Ohio governor in history at this point in the campaign, but he also has more than any other Democratic Governor up for re-election in the nation.“

Kasich’s campaign will point to the $2 million they raised in this reporting period—more than the $1.5 million raised by Strickland. This, they will claim, shows momentum.

Here’s the bottom line: Both candidates should be very well funded for a brutal fight into November.

By the way, the new site from the Secretary of State is much easier to use.
