41-14… Time to Move on, America!
41-14… 41-14… 41-14…
To quote Shane Falco from the movie “The Replacements,” (oddly enough, an OSU Quarterback in that movie) “Didn’t anyone have anything better to do that day?”
Yes, Ohio State is #1 for the first time since…. 41-14. So at Tuesday’s OSU media gathering that prompted dozens of questions about the Florida loss in the BCS Title Game. BTW—it was January 8th. So when reporters use the phrase “the events of Jan. 8th” this is the event to which they are referring.
I know OSU fans don’t handle tough losses gracefully---few fans do. But can’t we all take a collective breath and move on? We can---how do I know---because the Buckeyes themselves have.
The theme this season was not “41-14.” It’s a team that genuinely cares about daily improvement and about the next game. The next play. Truth is… they can’t go back and win that game… So, why do they continuously have to answer questions themed about Florida? I’ll tell you… fans continued disappointment.
Jim Tressel was asked if one of his security codes contained the numbers 41 and 14 (I’m guessing the reporter had a healthy tip on that)… he said that’s not true.
We all need motivation in life, and if looking back on a loss 9 months ago does it for you, great. But my experience is dwelling on past disappointments just isn’t healthy. Not to sound like therapist here, but the best course of action is learn from your mistakes and move on. Recharge… reload… refocus.
And what has OSU done to show it’s recovered? The nation’s top defense, a rapidly improving offense, outclassing all 7 opponents this season and the nation’s #1 ranking.
I’m no Dr. Phil, but I’d say they’ve moved on just fine. Everyone else should too.
