Deep Thoughts

Blackout?  Or a shout out to Buckeye Nation?

I stood in the corner of the endzone and looked to my left.  I saw a man dressed as Jesus wearing an Ohio State jersey “blessing” the team as they came off the field… I looked to his left… A younger fan dressed as a masked Buckeye pro wrestler (think “Nacho Libre”).  Behind me: BuckeyeGuy.  It’s true—the freaks do come out at night.

They were among the estimated 20,000 OSU fans who somehow got into Ross Ade Stadium Saturday night—-they were 20,000 of the announced crowd of more than 65,000. And this begs one very important question… how does a school allow 20-large of their opponent’s fans into their stadium?

Purdue students called for a “blackout,“ and kudos to the Boilermaker students!  They were loud and fun, even as the team was getting its Boilers handed to it by the Bucks.  And the train whistle—I loved it!  Great band there… good work by all who actually go to school at Purude, which BTW, is a beautiful campus.

Now to the Purdue “fans”—in particular the 17-thousand losers who sold their tickets to Buckeye fans to make a cheap buck.  Does that happen in Columbus—rarely.  Why—because Buckeye fans truly care—they are real fans.  And credit to Buckeye Nation again for driving the 4 hours over to Purude and “securing” tickets on their own (OSU only got an allotment of about 3500-4000 seats).

It’s another example of the haves and have-nots in the Big Ten.  And what’s clear through half of the 2007 season is what OSU “haves…“  the best team, and clearly the most devoted fans in America.  Sometimes you have to take a 4 hour drive to appreciate that.
