Brett Daly: Med School calls… at Michigan!
Brett Daly’s a Buckeye. He practices as often and as rigorously as his more well-known teammates. He’s put in hours of dedication in the weight room, on the scout team, out of the spotlight. He loves Ohio State to the point he’s sacrificed playing time and personal time. Next year, he might be a Wolverine.
Huh?
True. Daly, no kidding, will take a medical school interview this Friday at the University of Michigan Med School. Then later that day, he’ll join his Buckeye teammates at their walkthrough at Michigan Stadium. “I have to be careful about the questions they ask me!” says Daly. “… they may try to get some insider info out of me!”
Daly wants to be an orthopedic surgeon someday, and Michigan is the first school to grant him an entrance interview. Yes, he’s applied to Ohio State’s Med School, but has not heard back yet. “Maybe this will get their attention!” Daly says.
Practically none of his teammates knew about Daly’s Michigan interview until Monday’s media session. No one questions Daly’s loyalty. “He’s a buckeye, he bleeds scarlet and gray, and he’ll be a great doctor someday.” Linebacker Marcus Freeman says. “But I’m worried about that interview—some guys would say anything to get into med school!”
Daly won’t see the field Saturday, but he’ll have an enviable view of the greatest rivalry in college sports. More importantly, his view of his bright future appears clear.
