Deep Thoughts

Buckeye Media Day—-the Lowdown!

Ok… first thing.  These guys have some great personality, which I think every football team needs.  When we normally see them, the players give very standard answers to questions.  Very little color or controversy.  That’s exactly the image the school wants to portray—and that’s ok!  But it’s so refreshing to just talk to the guys like they’re normal 12-23 year olds (or in Ryan Pretorius’ case, 45—joking).  We asked the players to man who they thought the best looking guy on the team was-and almost to a man they said “me.“  Even James Laurinaitis, crazy humble little animal, says I’m better looking than these guys.  Best part—a bunch of these guys really believe it!  It’s called confidence, what it takes to make a great football player.

So thumbs up and down…

Up—to the Buckeye freshman class.  It’s as talented a group as we’ve seen in recent years, led by 3 massive offensive linemen and Terrelle Pryor.  But watch out for the freshman receivers, namely DeVier Posey and Lamaar Thomas.  They’re roommates this year and both determined to get on the field as freshmen.  Posey has impressed coaches in the early days of camp.

Down—to Jake Ballard’s hair.  Dude, you can cut it… it’s ok.

Up—to families.  I love seeing the players hug their moms and dads and snap photos. Beanie Wells’ couldn’t bring his entire family down—I mean he’s got 10 brothers and sisters!

Down—Terrelle Pryor—hang on, hang on!  He was peppered with dozens of questions in his first media session as a Buckeye, and while he appears thoughtful and intelligent, mustered up two “no comments.“  Talking to the media is not much different than talking to teammates.  Being polite and assertive gets you ahead.  No doubt he’ll improve in this area.

Up—to Thaddeus Gibson and his 15 tattoos!  Dude is covered in some of the most interesting body art I’ve ever seen. We’ll show you Friday on FNL how much work he’s had done, but it’s amazing.  Great stories about his late uncle and how he started Thaddeus into football.

And one final note… there’s a lot of change in store for Buckeye senior Curtis Terry.  Not only was he hurt all last season, he’s now wearing a new number (#99) and changing to fullback from linebacker.  Good for him making a new start in his final year.

And that’s blogtastic.
