Buckeye Nation Arrives, LSU Rivalry Begins
Buckeye Nation has arrived in New Orleans and a healthy rivalry has begun with LSU fans. They chant “Tiger Bait, Tiger bait,” Ohio State, of course, counters with “OH - IO.”
There is definetly more Scarlet and Gray on the streets of the French Quarter and around New Orleans, but there’s a catch. Not all LSU fans are wearing there purple and gold. They’re loud and proud, but perhaps because they feel at home they don’t feel the need to boast school colors.
Last night I was at Pat O’Brien’s on Bourbon Street and enjoying the dueing pianists. About every half an hour or so, they’d play the LSU fight song, and then Hang on Sloopy(which is much cooler, by the way) would get its turn. Even though there were more LSU fans, the Buckeye faithful in the house were as loud as their Tiger antagonists.
It’s a much different story than a year ago, when Ohio State fans invaded Arizona and vastly out numbered Florida fans. OSU folks have no problem with the role reversal - they’re spirit embodies how the Buckeye team feels. An underdog spirit they hope is poised to embarrass the Tigers on their home turf.
Until next time, Omar.
