Bucks Stay home for Big Ten Tourney
It sits perfectly in the Arena District, like it was supposed to be there all along. Huntington Park has added a new excitement to life downtown during the spring and summer. But this week we’ll learn the added benefit of a premiere facility—-tourism dollars!
The Big Ten Tournament draws the top 6 seeds in the conference to town as baseball begins Wednesday. It will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network, and will be the first regional showcase for the new stadium. For Ohio State, it’s a remarkable advantage being able to sleep in their own beds, bus 5 minutes down to the park and play ball. More than that, Buckeye Baseball fans may be more motivated to lift the host school to a tournament title.
And while OSU got some help on the final weekend to earn the regular season crown, they’ve earned it. The Bucks feature one of the country’s top pitchers (Alex Wimmers), catchers (Dan Burkhart) and closers (Jake Hale), plus a powerful lineup. These guys are built for college baseball—the aluminum pings ring out frequently with these guys. They’ll be in the NCAA’s for sure, but a win this week could help OSU secure a region tournament host site spot. Sure worked for the OSU Softballers, who just won their regional Saturday.
