FFN Extra: Jrod’s Postseason Picks!
Week 10---seriously! The regular season ends this week, but I’m not sure we’ve learned all that much about some of the stronger teams in Central Ohio. Not until the next few weeks against better competition will we understand how good our local guys can be. Here’s my teams to watch in each Division…
D1--Most people think it’s a matchup between Darby and Coffman in the regional final. I agree, but despite two future Buckeyes, at least 5 Division 1 recruits and a QB who’s the son of a former NFL QB, I’m not sure Coffman’s “Darby-ready.” Darby QB Jeremy Ebert may one day be a thorn in OSU’s side (he’s committed to N’Western)--he’s incredibly tough to contain. RB Jordan Richeson combines power and speed, and the Panthers can go deep as well. The Rocks have played too many razor close games for me to believe they’ll beat Darby.
D2--DeSales… the Stallions have posted impressive wins the past few weeks, including a road win at Cin. LaSalle last week.
D3--Licking Valley--Storm Klein--a man-child at RB, but more so this season as a linebacker. But the Panthers also have some monsters on the offensive line and talent at the skill spots. But Big Walnut could be a major threat here---any unbeaten season in the OCC grabs your attention.
D4--Jonathan Alder--last year’s state runners-up could be right back in the title game. They’ve won 33 straight home games, and with a senior QB in Austin Schlosser (plus Der Dutchman food fueling them!) I really respect the Pioneer program.
D5--Two options here---Bishop Ready (lone loss to Alder) and West Jefferson. The Roughriders are back, just like the old days. Two straight impressive regular seasons--they’re ready for a postseason run.
D6--Newark Catholic--a ridonculous amount of state titles in their trophy case.
Best of luck to all our local teams--give us reason to work well into December!
