Deep Thoughts

Football Friday Nite: My Teams to Beat in ‘08

Here’s what I know to start this thing off… 4 players from our region are taking OSU Scholarships next season. Two of them play on the same team… thus….

Division 1—Pickerington Central.  Here’s the thing, it’s not just future Buckeyes Zach Boren and Jamie Wood… another receiver’s headed to Michigan State and possiby 3-5 other players could get MAC and Bowl Subdivision schollys.  Plus, Jay Sharrett’s an outstanding high school coach—they’re an intense, traditional power with recent state title game experience.

Division 2—Desales.  Watch out for Davon Custis—a big, fast defensive end who’s being recruited by nearly every Big Ten school except OSU-he’s leaning toward Boston College.

Division 3—Chillicothe.  I mean they won in basketball this year.  But they will be a strong bunch this year, returning outstanding QB Caleb Knights.

Division 4—Marion Pleasant.  11-2 last year… outscored opponents 433-23 over 9 games!

Division 5—We’ll go with West Jefferson here.  Another unbeaten regular season last year, and about half the starters return.  I’m hearing they need a little help along the lines.

Division 6—Newark Catholic, of course.  The Green Wave won its 8th state title in school history a year ago, and while I’m not sure I expect a repeat with all their graduation losses, Catholic remains well coached and poised for a playoff return.

No comments for you.

Not a mention about Alder on your little preview show thursday nite. I know there not sexy like the Dublin’s or Pic-town’s, but come on, seven straight years of play-off football, only loses in playoffs past 2 years to eventual state champs. AND now starts the season with Big win against Lemon-Monroe( Div.III regional champ last year).  Oh and they play probably the toughest schedule in the state for a DIV 4 school.  Not a mention?  You guys dropped the ball and it shows that your knowledge of local football STINKS. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!
