Deep Thoughts

It was fun while it lasted…

Lebron James says, “It’s not always a bed of roses.” Explaining why the Cavaliers aren’t getting to the NBA Finals every year. I understand that line of thinking. But that doesn’t mean Cavaliers fans shouldn’t be disappointed. They reached the NBA Finals a year ago taking a major step forward in Lebron’s growth and in the improvement of the once-sorry franchise. And now they’ve taken two steps back, losing in the conference semi-finals!

Look at the Pistons, they are in their sixth straight Eastern Conference Finals – and they lack a true superstar! They Celtics have three perennial all-stars, thanks to shrewd maneuvering by Danny Ainge in the offseason. Expectations are raised in Cleveland - and they should be – yet, they weren’t met for the 2007-2008 season.

The entire organization is to blame. The front office needs to be more aggressive in supplying Lebron with help. And Lebron, as great as he is, can still get much better. He’s the most talented basketball player on earth. Don’t believe me, pull up you tube, and I dare you to watch without your jaw dropping. But he can’t do it alone. The supporting cast NEEDS to improve dramatically. Perhaps with these new look Cavs playing a full schedule together we’ll see a more cohesive and productive bunch next year. You can’t preach patience anymore – not after tasting the Finals last year. Only after Lebron hoists the Larry O’Brien trophy is it ok to say, we can’t win it every year. Until then, these seasons will continue to end in disappointment for the fans. Let’s just hope Lebron doesn’t join that crowd – and bolt town!
