Jets vs. Farve?? Hmmmm….
Ok… the past two weekends, the first 3 games of each weekend has been as watchable as a Mariah Carey film festival (basically just “Glitter”). Oh, but come late Sunday afternoon, we get a real doozey. I am floored by the Jets’ effort the past couple weeks, but upon further review (i’m officially tired of that phrase) they should be here. A couple reasons… the best offensive line in football, with Mangold, Faneca and Ferguson on the same line. Doesn’t hurt having three former Buckeyes on the roster (Mangold, Gholston and Hartsock). I’ll drop this in there too on the Jets—they have a hardworking, midwestern grit that shows through on the roster and the field. Por ejemplo… in the win over San Diego a Big Ten guy caught the Jets first TD (Dustin Keller from Purdue) and another ran for the second (Shonn Green of Iowa). Coach Rex Ryan is loud and arrogant and… awesome! He’s everthing I want from a head coach—-a guy who on 4th and 1 believes in his players that they’ll perform. I think they’ll go to Indy and earn a trip to the Super Bowl.
Then how about this… if Brett Fav-r-uh and the Vikings win in New Orleans next week, he’ll face the same team from which he “retired” a year ago! Rex Ryan will have a field day with that one. Farve looked outstanding in the win over Dallas Sunday… but we’ve seen this act before. Remember the NFC title game two years ago, when we thought his final career pass would be a Giants interception in -90 degree weather? That seems so long ago… but we know that Farve’s capable of a 6 interception day next week against the Saints, and his old rival Darren Sharper (he’s been a ball hawk this season). While the Saints looked dominant, I think both road teams have a great chance to punch tickets next week to an intriguing Super Bowl in Miami.
