Deep Thoughts

JRod’s Deep Thoughts: The Minnesota Game

This is the land of ten thousand lakes--and one big mall.  After staying up until 4am editing for our Sunday newscasts, my photog Andy and I headed out to Mall of America Sunday.  Nice place--especially the indoor amusement park--i hear it’s actually run by the company that owns Cedar Point.  One problem… I spent 2 hours in the place, barely walked through all of it, and bought merely a t-shirt for my little boy.  But a must-see for sure… especially if you like 10 Abercrombies in one mall.  See the attached pic of me with my homie from ‘Lego land.”

I’m offering to teach Beanie Wells how to tie a tie---he sported a clip on last night!  BTW--I think most of the Buckeyes dress better than I ever will--and I wear a suit and tie to work most days.  Mo Hall must teach a “suit up” class.

If you’ve ever seen me on tv, you know I have absolutely no sense of style---But what was the deal with Minnesota’s uniforms???  Those were Oregon-esque ugly!  And fans in the stadium were informed those jerseys were now on sale at the Gopher team shops.  There were no lines.

I’m taking dance lessons from Malcolm Jenkins-he just doesn’t know it.  Before every game, Malcolm dances around the field, working on his “club” moves--I asked him about it after the game--he said it’s just his way to loosen up and play his best.  Our previously mentioned photog Andy shot a good 5 minutes of Malcolm’s dance party before the game--we’re thinking of marketing it like one of those videos Napoleon Dynamite watched to master his “sweet” moves.

It was my first trip to the Metrodome, and it’s still a very cool stadium after some 25 years.  But can somebody clean the roof?  It looked like my college apartment carpet---spotted and unsightly.  If you look closely at the white “sheets” that hang down from the ceiling, they look like a used Buca tablecloth.

Finally-some football talk.  Not sure I’ve seen a better catch against good pass defense than Robo’s TD catch just before halftime.  He’s quickly making a national name for himself---and if Todd Boeckman can keep improving on throwing the ball deep, he could become a Randy Moss-type deep threat.  He just knows how to play---very Cris Carter-ish (all he does, catch Touchdowns).

The Bucks are finding some stars in their freshman class.  You already know about Brandon Saine, but a couple guys are making huge contributions on special teams.  Brian Rolle is an animal on the kickoff team, and has seen increased time at linebacker.  As the season wears on, watch for him to get even more time on defense.

We spent some tailgating time with AJ Trapasso’s parents---good people!  Good to see AJ get to run the ball again… and his fake punt proves that he has a future in football beyond Ohio State, that’s aussie-rules football.  He dribbled that thing perfectly, and as long as he can get used to that man standing near the goal posts in a white coat signaling with his hands, AJ’s got a career shot.  I don’t know if he’ll eat vegemite, though.

Peace
JROD

No comments for you.

I can’t believe Coach Tressel would let one of his players wear a clip-on tie.  John Wooden taught his men how to put their socks on, and I think Tressel and Mo Hall should make tie lessons a part of weekly drills.
