Morning Sports Thoughts
HERE ARE MY MORNING THOUGHTS OF THE DAY… I don’t like to make excuses for people, but did you ever think it’s weird that the Blue Jackets are in the NHL’s Western Conference. I guess some team has to be the eastern most team, but it clearly puts Columbus at a competitive disadvantage right off the bat - or stick in this case. Every road trip in conference - except to Detroit - is out of their time zone, which after a while, takes its toll on the body. And there are several trips to the west coast, not just in California, but all the games in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Not to mention trips to Dallas, Denver and Phoenix. It’s never mattered before because the Blue Jackets have been so far out of the playoff hunt, but it might this year. What about Detroit, you say? They’re in the same boat. Yeah, but they’re usually so far ahead in the standings because of their loaded talent - this usually doesn’t matter for them either. Really, there’s nothing the Blue Jackets can do about it - except like most people fighting for respect - succeed even when the chips are stacked against you. Then perhaps you can ask for change.
