OSU: The Perpetual Bridesmaid
Is it better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all?
That is the fundamental question about Ohio State athletics right now—the perpetual bridesmaid. Is it better to see OSU make championship game after championship game and lose than not make those title games at all?
I’m sure many people will say they’d prefer OSU (football in particular) to enjoy great seasons, and perform well in its bowl game. But they’d never want to see OSU get outmanned on a national stage. Now they’ve seen it two straight years.
I am not of that opinion, not even close.
Ohio State’s amazing run of excellence in this decade is paralleled by no one. Whether they’re the #1 team or #2 at season’s end doesn’t really affect that.
It is clear that OSU is not capable of matching up—today, as in right now—with elite SEC competition. It’s been proven twice on the field. It will not always be this way. The Buckeye program has the financial and community support necessary to catch up and defeat these teams.
LSU was physically superior last night to OSU. But 115 other division 1 teams are not. That tells me that OSU is a program of which its fans should be proud.
OSU does it the right way. No academic issues—kids graduate. More players from OSU go to the NFL than practically any other school. The spirit, in particular on gameday, is unmatched in America.
So is it better to love OSU than never love at all? You bet. Because the Bucks, someday soon, will reward your love.

As I agree with your conclusion that OSU does it the right way, I disagree that LSU was the physically superior team last night. It appeared to me that once OSU was up by 10 points the defense lost their agression to prove that they were the better team and started playing like they did against Illionis. Not having a clue where they were to be lined up at and on 3rd down unless it was third and long (more than 10 yards) they could not stop the run (which was their strength all season long). On offense, they stopped running the ball effectively and relied too much on Todd Beckman’s passing. If you go through those tapes and compare on what we did on offense and defense I believe it will show what I am saying. I am an avid buckeye fan and will always support them. I think that coach Tressel is doing a great job and as it has been always here in Buckeye nation, Beating Michigan will always make our season the rest will be a good topping. Thanks for listening…

I agree with the quote, “it is better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all? I disagree as well with the notion that the SEC/LSU was the superior team. I believe the Buckeyes are as good or even better than LSU. You take away the stupid personal fouls & the turnovers & you have yourself a different game. You can’t beat a good team by committing stupid fouls & turnovers. We will get another chance. Third times a charm, right? I also agree with Mike Lanning that we stopped running the ball & tried to use Boeckman to much passing. We should have kept pounding the ball & passing with a balanced attack. It was working. We started that way then we whimpered away from it.
