Deep Thoughts

Tressel “Underpaid”?  Not really, but….

Forbes Magazine says this week that Jim Tressel is the best value in college football coaching.  Their formula compares a coaches record against his base salary.  Tressel pulls in 2.4 Million from OSU, and with his obvious on-field success the past 7 years, Forbes says he’s clearly the best investment. As many as 9 coaches make more per year than Tressel, including Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, whom the magazine calls the “Worst Value” in coaching. Ferentz makes 3.4 Million a year, yet his record over the past 3 years is 19-18.

So is Tress underpaid?  No way… 2.4 million is an unreal amount of money, and to be honest, it goes further in central ohio than Pete Carroll’s 4.4 million would go in Los Angeles.  But is worth more?  Of course.  The leadership he provides on and off the field, with the amount of goodwill and recruiting he does for the university as a whole makes him more valuable.
