Way-too-Early CFB Preseason Top 10
It’s May. MMMMMMMMMAAAAAYYYYYY! But ESPN decided to release it’s latest CFB Preseason poll Friday for the 2008 season. It got me thinking I should make my own picks---and we’d love to read yours. Here goes…
1. Georgia.
OK, calm down! IMO, the best team in the SEC, the best league in America. By that logic, they should win the national title. QB Matt Stafford returns to a team loaded with returning starters, just like OSU. And after being shutout from last year’s BCS title game, Georgia’s hungry.
2. Ohio State
Are they the likely national champion? Yes… but it’s hard to say OSU will be 21 points better against the SEC than it was last year. Oh, and Ohio State’s hungry, too. All those juniors came back to school for a reason, and it’s not to beat Michigan again, which they’ll do easily.
3. Oklahoma
If QB Sam Bradford improves from his freshman year, watch out! Bob Stoops will have a few new faces on defense, but we know he can win the Big 12 with this team, which should put the Boomers in the BCS title hunt.
4. Florida
I know a lot of folks have the Gators as their #1 team, but I just remember the team that got beaten by lame old Michigan in their bowl game. Plus, they lost a little bit on defense. But the Heisman winner is their QB, and if they can beat UGA, it could be on to Miami.
5. USC
Trojans lost a lot. Problem for everyone else is, they replace all those drafted players with mega-talented recruits. Replacing the QB will not be easy, either.
6. Missouri
The Tigers’ offense proved to be a royal pain for defenses a year ago, and with QB Chase Daniel and his receivers in tact, Mizzou could roll back to the Big 12 Title Game. Their game against Kansas (the annual civil war) could be as good as last season.
7. Clemson
I love, love, love the Tigers offense. The best RB duo in America in James Davis, C.J. Spiller lead
8. LSU
The Tigers will have QB issues, but the Tigers reamain fast. Very fast. A tough schedule will haunt the Tigers in ‘08.
9. Texas
Talent galore, but lacking an identity right now. They’ll lose to Oklahoma, again.
10. Marshall
Ok, wishful thinking… I like Illniois.
The Illini lost Rashard Mendenhall and J Leman, but recruiting under Ron Zook has reached a new level. Remember, most of those players at Florida when the Gators beat OSU--they were recruited by the Zooker!
