Ben’s Weather Blog
The jet stream has lurched north after a frigid early-week period of zero temperatures and icy roads. Instead of snow, we get rain and lots of it—more than an inch and counting—and by the time colder air whisks back into Central Ohio overnight the moisture will be gone save for a few flurries. The wintry travel issues today will be across extreme northern Pennsylvania northward through New York State and New England, and across the Midwest from Kansas City to Chicago. Seattle is enjoying their whitest Christmas on record coing up with an 8-inch snow cover.
The jet stream normally fluctuates, but the frequency and severity of our December storms has been noteworthy as they slam into the West and make the journed cross-country to Canada and the Atlantic Coast with a wide variety of extreme weather. Things may settle down a bit and, if anything, turn unseasonably warm, as we get closer to the end of December. We might even get a thundershower Saturday evening along a cold front with spring-like temperatures.
